No IS presence in Bangladesh, says PM

Online Desk : Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said there is no existence of terrorist groups like Islamic State (IS) in Banglhasina parlament--www.jatirkhantha.com.bdadesh.

‘But several home grown terrorist groups in the name of Islam are engaged in creating violence across the country,’ says the Premier.

She said while replying to a question from treasury bench member M Shafiqul Islam Shimul during Prime Minister’s weekly question-answer session in parliament on the day, reports BSS.

‘No IS exists in Bangladesh, but a few homegrown outfits in the name of Islam are conducting terrorist activities and involved in various crimes,’ she added.

Reiterating her government’s zero tolerance policy against terrorism and militancy, the Prime Minister said the present Awami League government is pledged bound to fight the militants with an iron hand.

Referring to the government’s stringent measures undertaken against terrorism and militancy, Sheikh Hasina said Police is round-the-clock active with all legal steps against the identified terrorists and illegal arms, drugs and explosives, being recovered through regular special drives.

Besides, all national highways, railways, waterways, industrial belts, tourist spots, important establishments and public places have long been brought under constant security surveillance against any kind of sabotage, militant attacks and violence.

Sheikh Hasina said the intelligence activities have already been strengthened in the areas where foreigners reside and the roads which they use for movement.

She also said, ‘Installation of close circuit cameras and duties in the check posts were also strengthened.’
