‘UN-Pak comments on war criminals slap to our sovereignty’
University Correspondent : Eminent historian Prof Muntasir Mamun has protested the recent comments of United Nations (UN) and Pakistan over hanging war criminals saying, ‘It is a clear hit to our national sovereignty.’
The historian came up with the comment while addressing a porgramme, held at TSC auditorium, in the capital on Friday.He condemned such comments against Bangladesh.
Earlier, the Government of Pakistan expressed ‘deep concern’ over the executions of two political leaders Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed through an statement issued by its ministry of foreign affairs after the executions.
The statement had said, ‘We have noted with deep concern and anguish the unfortunate executions of the Bangladesh National Party Leader, Mr. Salauddin Quadir Chowdhury and Mr Ali Ahsan Mojaheed. Pakistan is deeply disturbed at this development.’
UN also renewed its call on the Bangladesh to immediately impose a moratorium on capital punishment and abolish the practice altogether while the government protested both of the international comments claiming it was clear interfering in its internal affairs.
