BB heist: Final Probe report submitted

S Rahman   :  The final investigation report on Bangladesh Bank reserve heist was submitted to Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Monday afternoon. The probe body handed over the report to the minister at his secretariat office.

Earlier, the probe committee submitted its interim report to Muhith on April 20.
The report will be made public in two weeks, according to the Finance Ministry.

The committee, formed on March 14 and chaired by former governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, was asked to submit an interim report within 30 working days, and a full report within 75 business days.

The other members of the committee are Buet Prof Dr Mohammad Kaikobad and Additional Secretary of Banking Division Gokul Chand Das.

On February 4, hackers stole $81m from Bangladesh Bank’s account with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and wired it to a number of bank accounts in the Philippines and Sri Lanka.

After massive criticism, Bangladesh Bank governor Atiur Rahman resigned while the government reshuffled in key posts of the bank.
