PM Sheikh Hasina inaugurates Ekushey book fair

Staff Correspondent : The much-awaited month-long book fair “Amar Ekushey hasinaGranthamela” on the Bangla Academy premises and extending into the Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday afternoon.

At the same time, the PM inaugurated the 4-day long “International Literary Conference 2017”. She also gave prizes to “Bangla Academy Literary Award 2016” winners.

The fair will remain open for the visitors 30 more minutes each day than the previous years. It will remain open for all from 3:00pm to 8:30pm on weekdays, 11:00am to 8:30pm on holidays and weekends, and 8:00am to 8:30pm on February 21.

Preparations have been taken by Bangla Academy and 409 publishing houses already to greet thousands of bookworms of different ages on the Academy and Suhrawardy Udyan premises.

The Prime Minister was handed over “Ocean of Sorrow”, an English translation of “Bishad Sindhu”, a timeless literary work of Mir Mosharraf Hossain and “Hundreds of Poems from Bangladesh” published in Germany, during the inaugural ceremony.
