HC upholds death penalties for Mufti Hannan, 2 others

`Staff Correrspondent : Mufti HannanThe High Court on Thursday upheld death penalties for three leaders of the banned Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HUJI), including its chief Mufti Hannan, for an attempt to murder on former British High Commissioner Anwar Choudhury.

The High Court bench, consisting justice M Enayetur Rahim and justice Amir Hossain, delivered the verdict today (Thursday).
The HC bench also upheld life term for Mohibullah and Mufti Moin Uddin, brothers of the HUJI top leader, Mufti Hannan.

In 2004, the then British high commissioner came under grenade attack as Anwar Choudhury coming out of shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal in Sylhet. Three people, including two police Bangladesh officials were killed and more than two hundred, including the British high commissioner, were injured.
