Ctg Port makes record of container handling
Chittagong Correspondent : Chittagong Seaport has made a record last year (2015) of 20 lakh TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit) containers handling which were more than any previous years.
In recognition of this pompous success, the Ministry of Shipping has awarded the Chittagong Port Authority with a special certificate.
Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan handed over the certificate to the Chittagong Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed through a programme at a hotel in Dhaka on Sunday.
Members of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Shipping Ministry MA Latif, Shipping Secretary Ashok Madhab Roy and the senior officials of the Chittagong Port Authority were present at the programme, among others.
A total of 20,08,445 TEUs containers have been handled till December 28 of 2015 while 17,31,219 TEUs containers were handled in 2014, the port authority informed at the programme.
Shajahan Khan said the Chittagong port started its journey when the reconstruction activities began in the country after independence under the leadership of Bangabandhu.
The minister also said the New Mooring Container Terminal has already started its operation while plans have been finalized to construct Bay Terminal at Patenga and Bulk Terminal at Laldia to boost handling
