Brexit referendum big challenge to UK’s future: Tulip Siddiq
Staff Correspondent : Labour Party MP Tulip Siddiq has said that the referendum that was issued in favor of Britain’s exit from the European Union has become a serious challenge to the economic and political future of UK.
The Bangladeshi origin British lawmaker made her remark in a statement that posted on her website on Friday (June 24).
“we can work together to protect those most at risk from the coming changes to our country,” Tulip, however, hoped for better outcome in future .
Earlier on Thursday (June 23), 52 percent of Britons opted to leave the EU against 48 percent choosing to remain, laying bare a fractured view on the crucial issue.
“I respect the outcome of the democratic process, and would like to place on record my thanks to campaigners across Camden and Brent who fought tirelessly for a Remain vote,” Tulip remarked.
“I share their dismay at the result, however our focus must now turn to healing the divisions in our society that this bitter campaign has created,” she went on to add.
Tulip, in her statement, also urged everyone to remember the strength of unity as she said, “We will all now begin a larger discussion about the consequences of the referendum and our collective future in the coming days.But for now, I sincerely hope that we can work together to protect those most at risk from the coming changes to our country.”
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Labour Party MPs of Bangladeshi origin Rushanara Ali and Rupa Huq had wished in favour of Britain remaining in the EU.
